We all have ideas that we want to do something with. But what stops our ambitions from turning into reality? Often times you need to convince others to get necessary support to succeed. In fact, nobody else will care about your project, if you don’t. It’s vital to make the commitment yourself and fully own whatever it is you are setting out to achieve. Without ownership, there can be no accountability or responsibility for the outcome of a project. And without these two things, it’s impossible to convince others that we really believe in what we’re doing.

It’s difficult enough trying to reach one’s full potential on their own accord; but when other people also need convincing this task becomes even more challenging. The best way forward is by accepting accountability for results and demonstrating seriousness and willingness in delivering on a promise.

So many people are waiting for someone to save them; don’t be like them. Own it. It’s more than just being committed and accountable on paper, you need to be proactive about reaching your goals. It’s your action and its results that are the measures of your success.

Accountability is like having a day-to-day conversation with yourself, one where you know that what you say actually has consequences and that at the end of the day, there are no excuses.

Commitment is the promise you make to yourself and everyone around you about some future action. Note, that your ultimate objective may be difficult to achieve, and such commitment could last for years to come to fruition.

Accountability and commitment go hand in hand. Putting the two together, you have to thoughtfully make a decision that you are indeed willing to contribute whatever it takes to succeed. As it’s often said among startup communities, fight as if your life depended on it. And in a way, it does.

We can only show our seriousness by accepting full accountability for whatever one has promised or committed themselves to. Without this there would be no real commitment from anyone else involved in the project. You just can’t expect that.

`It’s impossible to convince others, if we are not convinced ourselves.`
